Richard K Morgan wrote a series, starting with Altered Carbon, then to Broken Angels, ending with Woken Furies -- this is tough to classify, but it is certainly sci-fi with cyberpunk/mystery mixed in.  It's one of my favorite series and I have read each book several times already.  His main character, Takeshi Kovacs, is flawed and twisted, but you wind up rooting for him because he is ultimately a good guy.  The series is full of violence, drug use, sex, violence, crime, violence -- and then more drugs to top it off.  Set in the future, Morgan has created an interstellar world that is both jarring in its harshness but incredibly believable  because Morgan is so darn good.  Well worth a read.

Note:  Morgan's other works, Thirteen and Market Forces, are also good but nowhere near the caliber of the Takeshi Kovacs series.
